This article is divided into the best fishing locations in the US and the best fishing locations in the rest of the world, with information from an expert guide on each. We have split between flyfishing and all other types of fishing for each section.
Best Fishing Holiday Destinations in the US
Flat Creek Ranch
After searching around for unique destinations, Flat Creek Ranch really stood out to us. Located across 15 miles of the National Elk Refuge in the Wyoming wilderness, Flat Creek Ranch is and packed with adventure. As the name suggests, the ranch owns a private stretch of Flat Creek; bursting with trout – A sleepy place to watch the hours wind away whilst fly-fishing.
If you find you need a break from fishing, the ranch also offers trail rides a few days a week, ample hiking opportunities in the Bridger-Teton National Forest and the Gros Ventre Wilderness Area, or water activities in the form of canoeing, paddle boarding and sit-on-top kayaking. End your days unwinding in the hot tub or swapping stories about one and other by a crackling fire under the stars.

The Sport Fishing Capital of the World
Of course, we knew we would be including Islamorada FA, in this list but, our question was – Where? Coming across the Marina at Harold House at Fisher Inn Resort, we knew that we had to include it into this list (it would be wrong not too).
It offers slips for guests who arrive by sea to park their boats. It also partners with local boat rental companies and boat captains who will share the best tips and secret locations to find Islamorada’s colourful sea life such as; Mahi-Mahi, Swordfish, Sailfish, Marlin, Tuna, Yellow tail, Snapper, Wahoo, Amber jack and Kingfish.

Best Fishing Holiday Locations in the World
Curonian Spit National Park
For a different kind of fishing trip one could try smelt fishing in the Lithuanian winter. Smelt are caught through the ice of the Curonian Lagoon – a unique lagoon-type body of water that formed about 5,000 years ago, when a strip of sand brought in by the waves separated the branches of the Nemunas River from the Baltic Sea. You’re surrounded by the forests belonging to the Curonian Spit National Park and just a few tourist towns.
