Pigeons and doves eat a variety of grains, seeds, greens, berries, fruits, and will occasionally eat insects, snails and earthworms in the wild.
During the spring and summer, you can find doves and pigeons eating a variety of seeds and berries, fruits and grains. During the winter, you can find doves and pigeons eating grains, seeds, earthworms, snails, acorns and nuts.
Pigeons and doves love to eat worms and snails on the ground of an open lawn. They delicately pick up a tasty worm or snail and walk to the middle of the lawn and enjoy their treat.
Pigeons love to eat garden snails. Pigeons love eating mature, ripe female garden snails during the spring and summer months.
Pigeons also love to eat fruits. In a city park, I have seen pigeons sitting on a willow tree branch and eating the fruits as they ripen. I observed the pigeons gently eating the ripened fruits until they all disappeared.
Pigeons also love to eat seeds. Pigeons will delicately pick up a tasty seed and quietly walk to a nearby tree branch and enjoy their treat.
